Hawaii

In March of 2014, the VBMA will be visiting HAWAII.
Start saving now so you can participate in this amazing experience!  VBMA Past President Ihor Basko calls this spectacular island paradise his home, and he's looking forward to having everyone come and visit.

Ihor is in the process of lining up the hotel dates, and here's a link to their website:  Marriott Courtyard Kaua'i at Coconut Beach  It's beachfront, and they have a Hawaiian morning sunrise ceremony on Mondays and Wednesdays, Hawaiian music in the bar / restaurant, pool, great views, and it's within walking distance to other restaurants, food stores, including a health food store...all less than a mile away.

The tentative itinerary includes arrival on Monday, relax, and the next day a Brunch and Slide Show of Kauai, info on where to go and not to...and some tips for staying alive.  For those who are interested in the Hawaiian culture and dance, there will be opportunities to pursue those avenues too.  The location will be near many hiking trails and small beaches that are accessible without a lot of driving.

We have lined up a Hawaiian herbal medicine woman, Ginger Saiki, who will be our “kahuna” and teach us about Hawaiian Medicine herbs, plans for the group to get a steam, salt scrub and lomi lomi massage, visits to at least 2 tropical gardens and herbal gardens (including Lima Huli Gardens...and plenty of free time to go horseback riding, zip limning from tree to tree, snorkeling, hiking Kauai's trails or surfing and swimming at the beaches as well as whale watching.

Below are some photos for you from Lima Huli Gardens More details will be posted as they are available.

Spain

The 2012 VBMA ecotour took us to sunny Spain! This tour combined a bit of culture with a lot of hiking, relaxation, eating and some herbal education. The dates were April 19 – May 1, 2012. We started our tour in Barcelona to sample the art, architecture, and tapas. We then moved on to the mountains, where we will had 6 days of seminars, hiking, and culture with a team consisting of a traditional Spanish curandero and an herbalist who earned a BSc in herbal medicine at Middlesex University. Next, we left for Cabo de Gata National Park, a quiet spot in the hills with easy access to the beach for 2 days of leisure.
