Effectively treating COVID, long COVID and viral infections: Chinese medicine and western herbs.
As a genuinely holistic tradition, Chinese medicine provides in-depth, individualized ways of understanding and treating the many symptoms of COVID and long COVID. We’ll talk about how the School of Cold/Shang Han Lun can be applied to understanding and treating the many symptoms associated with the condition including issues with digestion, respiration, circulation, pain and neurological symptoms. We’ll also discuss the clinical insight provided with integrating different Chinese medicine traditions including the Five Phases/Wu Xing, Wen Bing Xue/School of Heat, the Neurology Tradition/Wai Ke. Brendan will also present case studies from his experience treating many cases of active COVID and long COVID and his clinical experience integrating western herbs within Chinese herbal medicine. Brendan will also speak about being part of a multi-disciplinary team lead by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center that in 2024 submitted a proposal to the National Institutes of Health for him to train acupuncturists to treat long COVID.
